Illinois schools at every level are suffering severe cutbacks. Chicago's property tax recently went up by another half-billion dollars. Young adults in poor neighborhoods have no jobs.

In 2016 Illinois lost over a billion dollars in unpaid tax revenue to just ten major corporations, which according to their own records paid just 1.8% of their profits in state taxes, less than a quarter of the required amount.

These companies are the MAIN BENEFICIARIES of our infrastructure, security, financial, and legal systems. But the rest of us pay their bills. In 2015 the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy named us one of the ten "Most Regressive State Tax Systems," with the third-highest "Taxes on the Poor."
